Interview Tips and Advice
- Be calm, philosophical, professional and determined
- Consider the location of interview and plan how to get there in time
- Take spare copies of your CV to the interview
- Arrive 10-15 minutes in advance. Not more or less
- Be polite to the receptionist. She/he may be asked about you
- Check the names of the panel and prepare to use them on introduction
- Review your notes while waiting. Breathe deeply and relax
- Remember to slow down your speech and lower your voice tone
- If the interviewer approaches you, stand, use their name, make eye contact and give a firm handshake
- Prepare to enter the room smiling and courteous but not obsequious
- Accept that you will be nervous. It will enhance your performance
- Keep eye contact with the questioner/address answers to whole panel
- Avoid lecturing the panel on your own personal views/philosophy
- Pitch answers at a level of technicality appropriate to your interviewing panel
- Demonstrate integrity by not giving away confidential info re. your previous job/colleagues
- Take time to think by asking for a question to be clarified
- Stay calm at all times even if provoked
- Be a listener and show patience if gaps in questioning occur
